About the Course
The Goal & Purpose
Examine various budgeting methods, from a simple envelope method to spreadsheets. This hands-on workshop gives each attendee the opportunity to learn methods which harness and direct their own resources with the goal of having greater control of spending as well as ability to save for a rainy day.
The Why & Benefit
In the US, 38 year-olds are the most common age group to file for bankruptcy as a response to unexpected job loss or medical emergency. Millennials (born in the 1980s to late 1990s) represent the largest working group and represent the average age of Brownsville residents. This cohort is also the least financially educated. Learning how to budget and save for emergencies has been proven to enhance financial resilience during difficult times allowing for financial stability and recovery.
The Practice & Activity
The 1 - 1.5 hour workshop will introduce attendees to an in-depth study of their expenses and spending. Attendees will be lead through a variety of interactive tasks to identify how to make their resources work for them. The first step is knowing where the money is and where it is going.
